Sometimes a client sits across from me and says, “I just do not feel like myself.” Maybe her rings feel tight. Her face looks puffy in the morning. Her body feels heavy, tired, or tender, even after she has rested. And beneath those words, I often hear something else: “I have been carrying so much.”
If that sounds familiar, take a breath with me. You do not have to explain away what you feel. Your body communicates in many ways, and these sensations deserve curiosity, care, and compassion.
Your lymphatic system is part of that conversation. It quietly helps move fluid through the body and works alongside your immune system. It does not work alone. Your breathing, movement, muscles, fascia, rest, and overall sense of safety all help shape the environment in which lymph can flow.

01 · Your body is speaking
Your lymphatic system is part of a larger story
I do not look at swelling, fatigue, or heaviness as isolated complaints. I listen for the fuller story. How have you been sleeping? Are you breathing deeply or holding your breath without noticing? Have you been moving with ease, or bracing your way through the day? Has life asked more of you than you have had space to process?
Manual lymphatic drainage, or MLD, uses soft, rhythmic, directional touch to support the body’s natural fluid movement. The pressure is light because lymphatic vessels sit close to the surface. This is not deep tissue work, and it is never meant to feel forceful.
Your body does not need to be pushed into healing. Sometimes it needs to feel supported enough to soften.
At MAVEN & MUSE®, lymphatic care is integrative and intuitive. We pay attention not only to fluid movement, but also to the fascia, the nervous system, your breath, and the places where your body may be asking for more space.
02 · Everything is connected
The nervous system, fascia, and emotions
When you have been living in stress for a long time, your body may adapt by tightening, bracing, breathing more shallowly, moving less freely, or staying on alert. Those patterns can influence muscle tension and the ease with which your tissues move. Because lymphatic flow is supported by breath, movement, and the surrounding tissue environment, the way we carry stress can become part of the lymphatic conversation.
Fascia is the connective tissue web that surrounds and supports structures throughout the body. When it feels guarded or restricted, you may experience pulling, tightness, or less ease in movement. Gentle fascial support can be woven into MLD to create more comfort and spaciousness without forcing the body.
And then there are the emotions we carry. I do not believe every symptom has one emotional cause, or that feelings are literally stored like objects in one place. But our lived experiences can show up in our breath, posture, muscle tone, protective patterns, and sense of safety. Sometimes, when the body finally feels supported, emotion rises. Tears may come. A deeper breath may arrive. You may simply feel quiet. None of it needs to be performed or explained.
You may be drawn to lymphatic support when you are experiencing:
Swelling and puffiness
Your clothes, jewelry, face, abdomen, or limbs may feel fuller or tighter than usual.
Heaviness and fatigue
You may feel slowed down, foggy, or as though your body is working harder than it should.
Inflammation and discomfort
Your tissues may feel tender, congested, or uncomfortable in ways that are difficult to describe.
Fascial restriction
You may notice pulling, tightness, or a sense that an area of your body cannot fully let go.
Nervous system overwhelm
You may have been moving through stress, change, grief, or responsibility without enough space to exhale.
A desire to reconnect
You may simply want to feel more present, supported, and at home in your body again.
You do not need to arrive with the perfect words. We can begin with what you notice and listen from there.
03 · Held with care
What a MAVEN & MUSE® session can feel like
We begin by talking. Not an interrogation and not a rushed checklist, but a real conversation about what you have been noticing, what your body has been through, and what would help you feel comfortable today.
The hands on work is light, rhythmic, and intentional. Depending on your needs, we may work with the neck, abdomen, trunk, or limbs and include gentle fascial support. You remain appropriately draped and in choice throughout the session. You can ask questions, request a change, or pause at any time.
There is no “right” way to respond. You may feel lighter, deeply rested, emotional, thirsty, quiet, or ready for sleep. Sometimes the most meaningful shift is simply feeling that your body no longer has to work so hard in that moment.

04 · Choosing your appointment
Should you book 90 or 120 minutes?
- 90 minute MLDA focused full session for established lymphatic goals, general swelling support, or a smaller number of priority areas. This is a strong starting point for many clients.
- 120 minute MLDAdditional time for more comprehensive work across multiple areas, a complex health history, or when careful pacing and fascial support require a broader appointment window.
Longer does not automatically mean better. Choose the time that feels supportive for your needs. If you are uncertain, a team member will gladly help you decide.
05 · A loving pause
Sometimes care means checking first
If swelling is sudden, new, unexplained, warm, red, very painful, or accompanied by chest pain or difficulty breathing, please seek medical care first. We may also ask for clearance when there is an active infection, a blood clot concern, significant heart or kidney illness, active cancer treatment, or a recent procedure.
This is not meant to make care feel frightening or out of reach. It is simply part of holding a safe space for your whole health. When in doubt, reach out. We can talk through the next step together.
